by Jes @SnackFirst on Jun 08, 2017
Avocado is high in fats, no doubt about it. But those fats are all good and healthy unsaturated fats! They are popularly taken with honey or in guacamole but in Singapore, we eat them fresh or drink them in avocado milkshake! I get my fix from Mr Avocado in Alexandra village frequently, and I think theirs taste the best!
Not just because of the rich, creamy, incredible taste, the benefits are numerous too:
1) Best food in the world
Being low carb, high protein and fiber is insufficient to claim the throne, it also has Vitamin K, C, B5, B6, E, Folate and Potassium. The high healthy fats will give you a good heart and help your body to absorb other nutrients easily.
2) High antioxdants super food
Avocado are loaded which 2 types of antioxidants, Lutein and Zeaxanthin. These antioxidants are highly sought after because they prevent aging and can protect our eyes from further damage. See this post for more on antioxidants.
3) Especially beneficial to pregnant mothers
Avocado contains the highest amount of folic acid among all fruits and has been proved to be good for babies and prevent birth defects. The other vitamins such as Vitamin B and K also reduces the risk of birth complications. Overall, it is definitely worth while for pregnant mothers to take this superfood regularly.
4) They improve your general health
People who regularly consume avocados are healthier in general. Due to the fact that this group of people are more conscious of their eating habits, these avocado-lovers have lower BMI and smaller waist lines. This is just a correlation and not a definitive conclusion. Regardless, with the nutrients listed above, the benefits do improve your health.
5) They help to lose weight
Last but not least, the best benefit is that this fruit can help you to lose weight! The misconception is that people should take less of avocado due to the high amount of healthy fats. However, similar to nuts, consuming avocado will make you feel more satisfied, easily full and less likely to over-indulge in other food. With such wonderful advantages, we recommend that you try eating more avocado and incorporate them into your daily meals.
Just be careful not to over eat! :)
