Hari Raya, also known as Eid al-Fitr (Adilfitri), is a festive occasion celebrated by Muslims around the world, marking the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is a period of "fasting" where Muslims take no food or drinks from sunrise to sunset. This fasting period will allow them to be more appreciative, forgiving and disciplined, reminding them of the others who do not have sufficient. This end of Ramadan, is also the first day of their Islamic Calendar and also termed as Muslims' New Year.
During Hari Raya, families and friends often gather to share delicious meals and snacks. Here are some popular Hari Raya snacks that are often seen in houses:
1. Pineapple Tarts (Kuih Tarts): Sweet pineapple jam on top of buttery pastries, and they're a staple during Hari Raya celebrations and also similar to Chinese New Year. The key difference is that there is Pandan Pineapple Tarts, as green is indicative of Muslims' paradise.

6. Dried fruits: Ramadan special dried fruits like dried dates, figs and apricots are the quintessential for this season. Our Muslim friends take these dried fruits to break fast, and they also have a sweeter tooth, so dried fruits are perfect as gifts.

7. Rempeyek - The combination of spices (like turmeric, coriander, and garlic) with crunchy peanuts, anchovies, or other toppings makes it a flavorful and satisfying treat. Rempeyek is not just a snack; it’s also enjoyed as a side dish, often paired with nasi lemak, nasi impit, or soups like soto ayam. Sharing snacks like rempeyek during Hari Raya is a form of sadaqah (charity) and a way to express gratitude and goodwill, aligning with Islamic teachings of generosity.

8. Shrimp Rolls - Shrimp rolls are packed with bold, spicy, and savory flavors that make them a festive treat, perfectly complementing the celebratory mood of Hari Raya. These bite-sized, crunchy rolls are ideal for sharing with guests during open houses, a central tradition of Hari Raya. They are quite spicy and not for young kids so do take note to give the non-spicy version when giving them to families.

9. Kueh Lapis - The multi-layered appearance of the cake makes it a visually stunning addition to the Hari Raya spread. It often becomes the centerpiece on dessert tables, admired not only for its taste but also for its intricate layers. The layers represent unity and togetherness, as each layer builds upon the other to create a cohesive, beautiful whole. The dense, moist, and buttery texture are well-loved by all ages, which makes them a worthwhile snack to prepare on your own or for gifting.

10. Nutella cookies - Nutella cookies bring a contemporary and fun touch to the traditional Hari Raya cookie selection. They are a modern favorite that adds variety to the cookie platter. The sweet, slightly nutty flavor of Nutella pairs perfectly with the slightly crisp cookie base, creating a harmonious balance of textures and tastes. This combination makes Nutella cookies an irresistible treat.
