Nyonya pineapple tarts are crumbly pastry with citrusy-pineapple jam placed on top of it.
These open-faced tarts are usually less sweet compared to the enclosed pineapple jam because you can taste them separately from the pastry. They also look nice like gold ingots and is said to bring wealth and prosperity, similar to pineapple which is known as 'Ong Lai' or 旺来 .
